When looking for a good tramping boot there are a number of important factors to take into account, such as ankle support, breathability, waterproofing, grip and all round sturdiness.

The Revo SCS boots caught my attention immediately due to their light weight design, gone are the days when boots had to weigh four pounds. This light weight is achieved through the use of synthetic upper material. In the past synthetic boots may have caused alarm bells due to the liklihood of them falling apart due to poor durability of the material. Not so in the case of the Revo SCS. I found the material extremely durable and after a 40km tramp through wet and relatively rough terrain in Te Urewera National Park they looked practically brand new.

In the past I’ve always just resigned to the fact that my feet would end up wet by the end of the day. I was curious to see how the Gore-Tex in the boots would perform in relatively wet conditions. It turns out that the boots kept my feet exceptionally dry, of course with this level of waterproofing some breathability is sacrificed and my feet did sweat a tad, however this was certainly nothing major and it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

The Contra-Grip outer sole has quite simply the most exceptional traction I’ve felt on a boot. Ankle support is also very good and the boots provided an excellent all around comfort level for the entire duration of my tramp.

Overall these are the best boots I’ve used to date. I didn’t see any signs of poor durability, my feet were kept dry, I didn’t get any blisters or rub spots and they’re very light. I would recommend these to anyone looking for an all round solid boot for tramping on moderate to rugged terrain.
