The 2008 Classic Southern Traverse will be staged in the Hanmer Springs area on April 11, 12, 13 and will showcase an exciting new format to challenge some of the world's best adventure racers.
The race begins on April 11 at 9.00am in Hanmer with an estimated eight hours of racing for the fastest teams and 12 hours for the slowest. There is a midnight start on the second day with the fastest teams expected to take 15 hours and the slowest 24 hours. The third day is scheduled to begin at 6.00am and will focus on Rogaine-style orienteering with all teams taking six hours to complete the course.
In addition, a totally separate race will be held in conjunction with the three day race as well - a 24 hour event starting on the Saturday morning will see these competitors mixing it up with the contestants from the full race.
The 200km three-day event is open to teams of four and teams of two. The four-team category competes for the overall Classic Southern Traverse title and the winning team will gain free entry to the 2008 Adventure Racing World Championships in Brazil.
Disciplines include trekking, mountain biking, kayaking and rope skills and there will be a strong focus on navigation and orienteering.
